Good news-bad news for libraries from 89th Legislative Session

This session, Texans faced bills that made it easier to ban books in schools and attempted to take away the freedom to read in public libraries. Despite strong opposition from the public, the Texas Senate and House managed to pass some harmful legislation that will impact school libraries across the state. Other bills were kept from passage that would have restricted minors’ access to certain materials in public libraries and remove local control from parents and school boards over control of materials in public school libraries.
