Consultation with Architect and Foundation Representative
What to Expect
A 5–6-hour, in-depth consultation will take place with the architect and a foundation representative and the stakeholders you selected. We start with the floor plan. The architect will present several different designs to optimize use of the existing space. We will discuss pros and cons of each and arrive at a final design before moving onto the selection of all the furniture and shelving.
What to Consider
Be prepared to make a lot of decisions in one day.Only items in public spaces, such as shelving, furniture, and the help desk, are eligible for grant funding. We can discuss and even suggest items for those other areas but know that they will fall into the category of items that will require additional fundraising beyond the $100,000 of the Tocker grant.
Preparing for Consultation Day
Secure a room with a large table that accommodates all the attendees and provides space for displaying drawings with an additional table surface area to spread fabric and finish samples.
Ideally, this meeting will be hosted in a private room to avoid distractions and unwanted visitors.
Tips For Success
Be very intentional in selecting those stakeholders. Focus on individuals who can work together to provide relevant input in creating functional, flexible, transformational changes to the library. They must be able to separate themselves from personal preferences. This is a space for everyone.
