Transformation Project Guide

Learn what to expect and how to prepare for every step of the process

Congratulations! Your library project has been screened and determined to be a good candidate for the Tocker Transformation initiative.

Throughout the process, we encourage you to keep in mind that this is a collaboration. The Foundation directors expect certain design elements and principles included in every project alongside each community’s needs and priorities.

Transformation Projects consist of four phases and below is an outline of what to expect for each step. Jump to any step in the process by clicking the link.

Documenting Your Transformation

Most new smartphones are capable of taking high-quality video and still photographs. Wipe the lens clean for every shot to avoid unnecessary blur from handling your phone. For the sharpest images, make sure the area is well-lit.

Taking photos in portrait and landscape orientation will give you more to work with when comparing before and after images. Make sure to back up a copy of these images once the transformation begins because there won't be a chance to take them again.

Best practices for capturing a before video

Erin Ray and Staff at the Jeff Davis County Library did a phenomenal job capturing the spaces in their library. By pinpointing areas they'd like to improve with a Transformation Grant the video serves as an excellent reference during the project.

We highly recommend all grantees capture both still photographs and video at the start of the process and upon completion of the transformation. By following the same path and capturing the same angles both videos can be combined to better highlight the impact created with the Transformation Grant. These examples are a great inspiration to future grantees and allow our Board of Trustees to experience the full impact of Tocker grants.
